Introduction
Revolutionary Alloy Coating
From the first-generation Galvanized (Z) steel to the second-generation AZ, Blue Scope had brought revolutionary changes to the coated steel industry over the last century. Nowadays, BlueScope again brings the leading alloying coating technology to China, replacing the second-generation AZ steel with new-generation AZM steel. By achieving further performance improvement, BlueScope will create a new chapter for coated steel products in China.
ACTIVATE Technology From Australia
In early 1990s, BlueScope started developing "Aluminum/Zinc/Magnesium" alloy coating, also known as ACTIVATE technology. Through large number of tests, the results have shown significant performance improvement in Aluminum-Zinc steel by adding 2% of Magnesium.
ACTIVATE technology includes two main aspects: alloying coating and manufacturing process. After proving the anti-corrosion performance of the alloy coating in lab, Blue Scope continues to experiment and improve manufacturing process to ensure correct dispersion of Magnesium in the coating, thus optimal the best product quality and long-term performance.

Over 20 Years of Comprehensive Tests
Before official commercialization, Blue Scope has conducted a series of comprehensive tests on ZINCALUME® M steel and Clean COLORBOND® M steel with ACTIVATE technology including laboratory accelerated tests, atmospheric exposure tests, field tests, and third-party verification tests. All these tests were performed to validate the product's theoretical performance in actual applicational environments.

In Australia
Dating back to before 2011, Blue Scope had been participating in Australian Standard Committee to include the product type of ZINCALUME® M steel with Activate ™ technology in the new version of Australia Standard, AS1397:2011. Appendix D Information and guidelines on the selection of steel grades and coating classes clearly states that in most environments, AZM coating is more corrosion-resistant comparing to AZ coating in most environments.

BlueScope cooperated with China Metallurgical Information and Standardization Research Institute, prepared the industrial standard, YB/T 4634-2017, "Continuous Hot-dip Aluminum-Zinc-Magnesium alloy coated steel sheets and strips" This standard is an industry recognition for ZINCALUME® M steel application in China.
